Miromatrix has been working in conjunction with the Mayo Clinic to develop a fully biologic transplantable liver.  This program has made significant progress, and is focused on rescuing a pig with a Miromatrix recellularized Liver by the end of 2017, followed by the rapid development toward the clinic.  Program accomplishments to date include:

  • Created and characterized whole liver process
  • Created key collaboration with Mayo Clinic to provide additional liver and surgical expertise 
  • Completed functional bioreactor design and building of key development facilities to support whole liver recellularization program with direct line to future manufacturing
  • Successfully re-endothelialized liver grafts with Human Umbilical Cord Endothelial Cells (HUVECs)
  • Completed re-endothelialization optimization of liver grafts with Porcine Umbilical Cord Endothelial Cells (PUVECs)
  • Successfully transplanted re-endothelialized liver grafts with PUVECs for 72 hrs. with sustained perfusion in a pig model to demonstrate proof-of-principle of functional vasculature
  • Successfully optimized primary hepatocyte seeding into liver constructs with sustained albumin production
